Capitalizing on a 2-0 victory over Singapore, the Philippines are now in Vientiane to face Laos in the final leg of their series of friendlies across Southeast Asia.
Sporting a win over the Lions and a draw against Cambodia, the Azkals are hoping for a strong finish in their tour before returning to Manila.
Laos are not a new face for the Philippines after they faced each other during the qualifiers of the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup. There Laos had a 2-0 advantage at halftime before a valiant second half comeback from Phil and James Younghusband earned the Azkals the vital point that saw them advance to the group stage of the tournament where they went on to the semifinals of the competition.
This will be the first competitive match for Laos and will be looking to kickstart their preparations for the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup qualifying group stage in Myanmar.
Three players for the Philippines will be unavailable for the match after Jerry Lucena had to return to his club Esbjerg fB in Denmark while the Younghusband brothers had to return to Manila due to the first anniversary of their mother's death.
Devoided of three players, the Philippines still have a threat as the squad still boast of promising talents in Patrick Reichelt, Marwin Angeles and Denis Wolf.
After the match, the team will return to Manila, this time to prepare for the upcoming Philippine Football Peace Cup set for September which is also part of their preparations for the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup.
