On Friday, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) released the complete and official list of players who are to participate in the upcoming training camp in the United States. A tweet from the PFF Marketing and Communications Head Ebong Joson established the identities of bulk of the contingent, with the Azkals website then posting the complete list later that day.
The 24-man pool are as follows:
With most of the European-based players in the closing end of their preseason preparations, or in some cases already starting their 2012/13 season with their respective teams, the pool Hans Michael Weiss has lined up is heavy on local-based talent, highlighted by the presence of almost half the roster coming from recently crowned United Football League champions Global FC. The pool also does not include the Younghusband brothers, who have earlier said that they will be missing the US camp due to prior commitments, but a couple of their teammates from the Loyola Meralco Sparks are present. Also included in the pool are some of those took part in the AFC U-22 Qualifiers.
The camp in the United States will take place from August 3-17, with the highlight being the P/E Capital Investments Invitational Cup, a round-robin tournament with US Premier Development League (PDL) side Chicago Inferno and the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) men's national football team.
The friendly against the Inferno is scheduled on August 11 at 7:30 PM local time (August 12 8:30 AM in Manila) in Joe Bean Stadium in Wheaton College, while the FIFA international friendly with the USVI will take place on August 17, also at 7:30 PM local time (August 18 7:30 AM in Manila). That friendly will be held at Kuntz Memorial Stadium in Indianapolis. ABS-CBN Sports, through UHF channel Studio 23, will televise these friendlies LIVE.
The camp is the first phase of preparation the team will undergo for the upcoming 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup in November.
The Philippines is bracketed with Vietnam, Thailand and the winner of the AFF Suzuki Cup qualifiers being held in Myanmar, with group stage action to take place from November 24-30 at Rajamangala Stadium and (for the November 30 match) Supachalasai Stadium in Bangkok.
