Old Trafford will now have an infusion of Japanese flavour and flair.
With a UK permit secured and a medical passed, Manchester United has officially secured the services of Japanese international Shinji Kagawa from Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund. The midfielder signed a four-year deal with the Barclays Premier League runners-up after both teams earlier this month agreed on the transfer fee for the 23-yr old. Terms of the said deal were undisclosed, but reports have the figures ranging from £12m up to £17m, depending on incentives.
Sir Alex Ferguson is looking forward for Kagawa to contribute immediately with the team, as he fits United's style of play with his vision, skill and eye for scoring goals. On Borussia Dortmund's end, they thanked Shinji's contribution to the team in a brief statement, recognizing his role for securing 2 Bundesliga titles and a DFB Cup during his brief stay.
Shinji is delighted with the move, as he believes that the Premiership is the best league in the world and is looking forward to the challenge that this poses him. He prefers to play the central midfield role that he adeptly scored 17 goals and 13 assists in the just concluded season for Dortmund, but he has been used on the left side for the Blue Samurai in the recent international matches.
This is the Red Devils' second signing during the offseason, as they secured the services of U-19 England international Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra.
Here are some highlights of Kagawa.
