Global FC has now the upper hand in the UFL title race after defeating defending champions Philippine Air Force Phoenix 4-0 in their penultimate match of the season.
The win ensured Loyola Meralco Sparks are out of contention for the league title after losing to Air Force 2-1 last Wednesday and a 2-2 draw against Nomads Auction Manila last Friday.
Global opened the scoring in the 11th minute as Izo Elhabbib found Alex Obiang open to slot home the opener.
Elhabbib followed it up in the 24th minute after Air Force goalkeeper Tats Mercado fumbled the long ball, allowing Izo to poke the ball past the back of the net for the 2-0 advantage.
Things turned sour for Gas the referee sent off Misagh Bahadoran from the bench after the referee adjudged that Bahadoran trash talked at an official following Elhabbib's goal.
It was Global all the way in the second half as Elhabbib bagged his brace after heading home David Basa's cross in the 61st minute.
Patrick Reichelt added a fourth goal in the 72nd minute to complete the rout against Air Force.
The win allowed Global to move back into first place with only one match remaining against Loyola Meralco on Tuesday. A win or draw for Global will clinch the title their way, but a win for Loyola, coupled with Kaya FC defeating Stallion Gilligan's would allow Kaya to snatch the title away from Global.
