Angel Guirado set to transfer to Salgaocar FC

2012.03.13 Angel Guirado

With the increasing reports of footballers with Filipino ancestry or not flocking to the country to see if they can try their luck in the United Football League, one man has successfully done the opposite.

On Friday, Philippine international Angel Guirado officially made the move, transferring from 2011-2012 United Football League champions Global FC to Indian Premier League side Salgaocar FC on a one-year deal.

In a statement released on their club website, Salgaocar FC head coach Karim Bencherifa noted that "Angel is a tall player with good physical presence and competent skills; he will give me lot of options as a striker."

The 2011 Federation Cup champions struggled offensively to complement a sterling defensive unit that allowed the fewest goals in the 14-team I-League, as the team scored the 7th most goals amongst the clubs, which ensured they finish in 6th place and unable to successfully defend their league crown this past season. Adding Angel would be one means of alleviating this relative weakness.

The attacker with Spanish descent has seven goals credited to him in international competition. He also scored two goals for Global during the league portion of the 2011-12 season.
